Writing Workshop: Paragraphs and Essays (May 2024)
This 2-part workshop will help you understand and build the basic patterns used to construct well-written paragraphs and essays.
Learn to identify the main idea in written text, and craft a reasoned response in a paragraph or an essay.
We will discuss:
- what it means to make an "evidence-based argument"
- tips for writing a good paragraph
- how to write a strong opening paragraph, or "thesis statement" for an essay
- how to organize your ideas and supporting evidence
- how to write a strong closing or "conclusion" paragraph
- what is the difference between "fact" and "opinion"
- references and citations

Understanding Charts and Graphs Workshop (May 2024)
Whether you are planning to write your GED or go back to school, or just want to build your skills to understand all the information and data we see everyday, knowing how to read and understand tables, charts and graphs is an important skill.
This two part workshop will cover:
- Common types of tables, charts and graphs including:
- Line or bar graphs
- Pie charts
- Scientific of technical diagrams
- How to find and interpret the information in the charts, graphs and tables
- Tips and tricks on how to spot misleading information in charts and graphs

One-on-one Tutoring
Adult students (18 years and older) are paired with a trained tutor who can help you improve your reading, writing, math, or help you with basic computer and digital skills. Tutoring for new speakers of English (ESL/ELL) is also available.
Each tutor and student pair will work one-on-one, at their own pace, on your goals in reading, writing, math or English Language Learning.
Gain confidence, develop and strengthen your skills at your own pace, and open doors to new learning, community and employment opportunities.
